Hey whatsup guys. I just started using my 1st gen PS3 as an SACD player (my dad has an integra 8.3 back home so never a reason to) and I just threw in Slowhand and tried to listen to the Multichannel tracks however for some reason the only audio is coming from the sub and the rear speaker channels. No audio from the L/R/C and when I crank the volume my receiver shuts off! The 2 channel SACD and 2 channel Red Book tracks are fine and I can listen to the multichannel tracks in Stereo and All Ch. Stereo no problem and it shows up as 5.1 channel in the track info, my receiver recognizes the MCH 5.1 PCM as well. Any ideas on how to fix this? Here are some of my settings...

I'm using HDMI into an Onkyo HT-S3300. The receiver is more than compatible with 5.1 PCM and even DSD, except PS3 only outputs SACD in PCM.

Video Settings:
BD/DVD Dynamic Range Control: Off
BD/DVD Audio Output Format (HDMI): Linear PCM (doesnt really matter as ps3 outputs DSD as PCM regardless)

Music Settings:
Output Frequency: 44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz
Bitmapping: Type 2

Sound Settings:
Audio Output Settings:
DD 5.1 Ch
DTS 5.1 Ch
All the Linear PCMs up to 7.1 channels (obv, since my Onkyo is a 5.1)

Not sure what's the matter here but could it be the display connected to your receiver is wreaking havock in your audio chain?

It sounds a little like the problem described here in the FAQ.

Have you tried it with the display off?

Tried did not do anything. I'm listening to the multichannel tracks on Direct mode successfully but not the Multich that I would listen to say a bluray on. When I'm on that the front three channels are just not there. On every track.

So just to mess around I decided to uncheck Linear PCM 5.1 and 2.0 at 176.4kHz at the Audio Output menu. The receiver before read 176.4kHz, now 88.2 kHz and it sounds awesome. Full channels.

The Onkyo's can't do some of the DSP modes at the highest resolutions. My 885 preamp has the same limitations. I typically use direct mode for music, so I haven't run into the issue though.

Note to self: must add this to the FAQ's troubleshooting guide section.

I was listening to it on Direct and it actually sounded pretty good at higher volumes. Multich far better though.
