SCE Liverpool wiped out

Edge reports today that Sony Computer Entertainment has decided to close Studio Liverpool -- the studio formerly named Psygnosis that was reponsible for the fantastic wipEout series, the first instantiation of which helped establish PlayStation as a hyper-cool brand.

Eurogamer reveals that SCE Liverpool was working on wipEout PS4.
According to a quoted press statement, "by focusing our investment plans on other Studios that are currently working on exciting new projects, we would be in a stronger position to offer the best possible content for our consumers."

So wipEout PS4 is not an exciting new project? I don't get it. There is almost no videogame IP that is more closely linked to the success of the PlayStation family of products.

Farewell Studio Liverpool. I for one will remeber your creations fondly. I've had this avatar for many years and intend to keep it many more.

Perhaps with PS4 they're going to shift the focus of their attention away from hard core gaming towards family-friendly entertainment? I know, this would be odd, all this time after the departure of Phil Harrison. Moreover, you'd think a low-end PSthree would be the vehicle for that.
