Edge reports today that Sony Computer Entertainment has decided to close Studio Liverpool -- the studio formerly named Psygnosis that was reponsible for the fantastic wipEout series, the first instantiation of which helped establish PlayStation as a hyper-cool brand.
Eurogamer reveals that SCE Liverpool was working on wipEout PS4.
According to a quoted press statement, "by focusing our investment plans on other Studios that are currently working on exciting new projects, we would be in a stronger position to offer the best possible content for our consumers."
So wipEout PS4 is not an exciting new project? I don't get it. There is almost no videogame IP that is more closely linked to the success of the PlayStation family of products.
Farewell Studio Liverpool. I for one will remeber your creations fondly. I've had this avatar for many years and intend to keep it many more. |

Perhaps with PS4 they're going to shift the focus of their attention away from hard core gaming towards family-friendly entertainment? I know, this would be odd, all this time after the departure of Phil Harrison. Moreover, you'd think a low-end PSthree would be the vehicle for that. |
