Well, my 7th copy of this album, 5th digital disk version.

Original LP
replacement LP (wore out the first copy)
80s CD release
Atlantic remaster
Rhino remaster
SACD stereo release of a couple years ago, only got it this year though.
now this.

Have to say, the surround is great, a subtle extension to the surrounds. But there really nice thing is the hi res extension. I had not listed to my stereo SACD since my old 60GB PS3 is more or less non-functional, so I imagine it is similar.

But best I have ever heard the the album sound. The extras are what make this version so nifty. There are the 2013 remix in stereo and 5.1, but also instrumental tracks, which is a very interesting way to heat these songs after all these years. Also digital versions of the UK vinyl release, and 2.0 and 5.1 versions of a flat mix of the masters.

I will say the DTS-HD MA is a bit disappointing at 48 Khz compared to the 96 Khz LPCM. There is an audible difference.

Anyway, pretty definitive release. The above buying history not withstanding,
I can't imagine why I'd ever purchase this album again now.

If they give Relayer, Topographic Oceans, the Yes Album or Fragile the same treatment. I'm in.

Was there an SACD stereo release of CttE earlier? I'm only aware of the Audio Fidelity reissue and the High Vibration box set release both of which only came out this year.

Anyway, if you're a completionist you could still get the DVD-Audio version that came out at the same time as the Blu-ray Disc edition :-)

I guess it is new this year. I though it had been out a while.

Not a completionist. The DVD-A is just a subset of the blu-ray anyway, isn't it?

Not sure if it's a subset but it's unlikely it'd be a superset. There's probably nothing there you haven't got now.

This is what it looks like: Fits nicely in a DVD-Audio collection...

There's detailed information about the contents of all new editions here.

Interesting thing it says here:

PS: I had copied the wrong links in my previous post but have corrected those now.

Now i've added Relayer and The Yes Album blu-rays to the collection (6th or 7th copies of those as well).

Same as CTTE, 5.1 in 24/96, both in LPCM and DTS HDMA (and DD), as well as stereo, instrumental tracks only, vinyl master, UK master and some extra tracks and stuff. Inlaces a BD and a CD.

Even Relayer is a bump up in quality, although minor given the limitations of the recording to begin with. Wish they'd do TfTO.
