Has anyone tried to play a DualDisc on their PS3? I'm as hesitant to try it on my new console as I am trying it on my high-end SACD player.
I'm eager to try the DualDisc of Duran Duran's Astronaut album because I've also got it on SACD and I'm curious about the sound difference. BTW, I'm still not sure whether the DVD-side of the DualDisc contains DVD-Audio or DVD-Video content though I suspect the latter.
Before release I recall having read statements from Sony that PS3 would be DualDisc-compatible but I can't find any mention of DualDisc in SCE's official online manual. Perhaps I should check the paperwork in my box once more. |

No - a DualDisc is a peculiar hybrid which has a CD on one side and a DVD(-A) on the other, literally stuck together, making the format unusually thick not to say somewhat bizarre. I have been loathe to try one of the two I own in my PS3. _________________ A diehard SA-CD fan

isn't the dualdisc symbol printed on the ps3 itself as a supported format? I bought 2 dualdiscs and they should arrive soon. so lets hope they do play.

It's not, though I believe it's listed in the range of supported formats.

Glad you could make it. Esthetics aside, this forum may be more on topic. |

Why? |

just wondering if there's anyone I might recognize from there, here. this site seems cool, but much like the other sacd site, the forum seems rather slow. blu-ray.com was the first forum I was on and its now exploded. perhaps I will start trying to send some people from there here as well to talk about music instead of movies. I'm on there a lot. i'm pretty easy to find. |

I would worry the extra weight of a dualdisc might wear out the bd drive over time. The PS3 should play both sides of a dualdisc but I would be hesitant to do a lot of heavy listening of them on a PS3. Dualdiscs don't conform to redbook cd standards and some cd players will not read them. |

I have a Sony 400 DVD ES series changer that I often use for SACDs too. There is a warning about using Dualdisc media in it, this may be the reason why.
