Of Rolling Stone magazine's Top 100 Greatest Albums of All Time, a mere 21 have thus far been released on SACD:

4 - Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan
9 - Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan
12 - Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
16 - Blood on the Tracks - Bob Dylan
20 - Thriller - Michael Jackson
31 - Bringing It All Back Home - Bob Dylan
32 - Let It Bleed - The Rolling Stones
35 - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars - David Bowie
36 - Tapestry - Carole King
43 - The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
47 - A Love Supreme - John Coltrane
49 - At Fillmore East - The Allman Brothers Band
50 - Here's Little Richard - Little Richard
57 - Beggars Banquet - The Rolling Stones
67 - The Stranger - Billy Joel
88 - At Folsom Prison - Johnny Cash
91 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
94 - Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
95 - Green River - Creedence Clearwater Revival
96 - Tommy - The Who
97 - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan

(Nine of these are stereo only)

I voted for The Joshua Tree. I wish I could believe these reports (see other thread) but it seems Universal has put this project on the back burner.

Can't understand why London Calling, a Sony release isn't on SA-CD. That other chestnut from the 80s, again a Sony release, 'Diamond Life' by Sade ought to have been a prime contendor for an SA-CD reworking.

Well for some reason the poll won't let me vote. But I would have voted for Sgt. Pepper hands down. With all they did with multitrack and stereo mixing that, doing it in multichannel would have been a no-brainer if it had existed at the time.

Despite DVD-Audio being more pop music-oriented than SACD, the latter format scores better with 21 out of 100 compared to DVD-Audio with only 8 (if I counted correctly):

#2: The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
#25: Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
#34: The Band - Music From Big Pink
#37: The Eagles - Hotel California
#49: The Allman Brothers - Live at Filmore East
#73: AC/DC - Back in Black (actually a DualDisc)
#78: Neil Young - Harvest
#96: The Who - Tommy

of which just 2 have been released on both formats: The Who's Tommy and The Allman Brothers' album.

Personal choices

any Led Zeppelin
The beatles albums that were chosen make the most sense
any Elvis Costello

and missing from the list

any Alan Parson Project album
(Tales of mystery and Imgination being foremost)

ANY.. ELO album on the planet
(ok I am seriously biased here..but multichannel SACD, we all
know Jeff Lynne has the tracks to do this with and do it right) Cool )

...
Missed this first time around..also missing from the list..
any RUSH album

There are persistent rumours Wish You Were Here will be reissued on SACD.

If the following site has any authority that's good news then:

http://www.pinkfloyddiscography.org/pink_floyd.html (see far end of the list)

The fact that the date mentioned has already expired by three months sounds like a bad sign though.

I see some Pink Floyd albums (including WYWH) here with release dates listed as 07/07/2008. Unfortunately they're listed as plain CDs.

http://www.esounds.com/esounds/EN/Details.aspx?ProductID=M50999196918&VariantID=5099951110628

Yet another RBCD reissue of Pink Floyd's albums?

Hmm, rumours about WYWH SACD are endless. It was already rumoured by the time they released DSOTM 30th Anniversary, 5 years ago. I wouldn't wait it with much hope... Smile I guess they are making enough money with the recent boxed reissues...

Anyway, we should stay in tune. Gilmour is again (once again) playing with the possibilities of a new one-off reunion. Waters obviously loves the idea.

I still wanna see them live... Sad

This isn't completely relevant, but I amuse myself with the idea that if they released a multichannel version of The Clash's Sandinista it might actually be listenable. The whole thing. If Atlantic can release Rough Mix on Dual Disc I can't see why this isn't possible. Another one would be Pink Floyd's The Final Cut. It's practically in surround sound already.

So The Beatles' albums are remastered again and out now on CD. This Bloomberg article specifically mentions:
Quote:
Missing Gems

A few caveats: These albums aren’t cheap, given that many are only about 30 minutes long (both mono and stereo mixes would have fitted on each disc); the boxes don’t include Beatles gems such as “Live at the BBC,” the three-volume Anthology series or the widely available releases of recordings with Tony Sheridan; fans will have to wait for Blu-ray, SACD or downloads.

Very nice that the author mentions SACD but I don't attach any meaning to it. I mean I don't think there are any concrete plans to do so (even though I think it's silly).

On the topic of Rolling Stone magazine charts and SACD... just noticed that the RS500 SACD sampler is also available through Amazon.com (used, currently from $29.99). Now added to the music page (under compilation albums at the very end).
