I have been waiting on newer receivers to come out that support DSD and I have been looking at this newer model from Yamaha.

I downloaded the manual it indicates to support DSD over HDMI
and the display actually indicate when in DSD mode.

Link on CNet

Trying to see if there is any reason not buy this other than it's new.
IT's priced at $500.00. 300 less than the Onkyo 805.

Not THX certified, but hard to find any receiver that supports DSD at that price. The CNET tries to compare the V663 to the Sony STR-DG820, but almost all of Sony's lower ened models seem to not support DSD.

No manual available from Sony's website to confirm.

Good to see the newer receivers supporting DSD, I would imagine the PS3 is headed that way via HDMI.

Other Models I have considered is the Denon AVR-988

Correct. There's also an 863, 763 and 463 model coming. See http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20080408/yamaha.htm (Japanese).

You'll find them mentioned on the homepage or in the FAQ as soon as Yamaha has fulfilled our request for more details.

Concerning DSD output via HDMI there's no news from the Sony (PS3) front but Pioneer announced the successor to their DV-600AV universal player model last week: the DV-610AV. It also sports this feature (for SACD). See http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20080425/pioneer.htm (Japanese).

I think the drawback on the 600AV was no multichannel DSD.

I am trying to plan this out with my parents in mind and have gotten my father setup with SACD and he has literally been blown away by the difference in SACD to anything else.

They are tweaked better than I am for SACD right now. The big trick now is to get HDMI so we all don't have 50 billion cables running everywhere.

IF they do come out with the PS3 and DSD that's what they are getting for a blu-ray player. Cool

Please do not dismiss the PS3's SACD playback on the grounds that it outputs PCM right now. It still sounds fantastic! Plus, of course, PCM output can afford room-compensation to be used in your receiver, e.g. Audyssey, should you be of the ilk to take benefit of this kind of feature.

Only positive incentives to get a PS3 are DSD, Blu-Ray.
I can buy a Blu-Ray drive for My computer that is hooked up to my
HD TV and watch blu-ray for a lot less than a PS3

If the PC drive could output DSD that would be even better.
I own 3 gaming systems and 3 computers, I need a good reason to purchase a PS3.

DSD via HDMI would do it as it give me a Blu-Ray play that gave me HD sound and it would get rid of a lot of cables I would not need anymore.

FYI: Yamaha seems to be putting out the same Receiver under 2 different names. There is the V663 I mentioned and a HTR-6160, they look like the exact same model.

That could very well be. The North American sales division seems to have its own type number range. Typically, a receiver called DSP-AX#### in Japan and the UK is named RX-V#### in the US. They may have come up with a new naming convention for 'Home Theater Receivers' (HTR~)
