Doe's anyone know for sure how the ps3 sends the DSD data to the analogue output.
1) DSD -> PCM 176.4 -> PCM -DAC -> Analogue
2) DSD - > DSD-DAC -> Analogue
i tried to look for this answer a long time using Google and this Forum.
and every time i see a different answer.
thanks. |

Likely 1)
because in the architecture it's probably not possible to send DSD to the DAC and simultaneously the same signal in PCM to the HDMI output. This is not certain though.
Also, if SCE had cared enough about DSD, they probably would have taken a DSD-capable HDMI chip, but then again perhaps those were not available timely, and they were under great time pressure to launch PS3.
An analysis of which DACs precisely are in the first two PS3 generations can shed light on this. |
