Sorry I'm a little late with this but I read that "the packaging for Star Trek (2009) on Blu-ray and DVD features 'augmented reality' that allows you to hold the case up to a webcam or PS3 Eye camera and move around a 3D holographic version of the Enterprise with tilts and pans of the case."

I watched a video of this and it looked pretty neat. I just wonder: how did they offer this? Is there simply a piece of software on the disc (next to the video) that you can install on a PC or Mac? And does it work on PS3 too, since they're referring specifically to the Eye camera?

There are similar bits of software available on the web as browser plugins, usually an augmentation to Flash. Topps baseball cards has one, The local power utility had one. Basically it is keying off the geometry of the artwork on the case. If you were to make a photocopy of the case at 1:1, that would probably work too.

It then follows that in realtime and rotates the generated image to follow.

Aah, I misunderstood and thought you had already tried it.

Does the PS3Eye work with anything besides the PS3? I don't have one, and didn't know if it would require a driver or something to hook to a PC.

If they are specifically touting it working with the PS3Eye, I would bet it does.
