According to this article by Ars Technica, Apple is considering migrating from 16-bit to 24-bit audio encoding (after having upgraded from 128 kbps to 256 kbps earlier).
Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits has a nice editorial on it.

Still waiting fo clarification on whether they will go to lossless compression at the same time. Seems sort of moot if they don't.
And THAT would up their storage and bandwidth by a factor of 4 or 5 , not just 33%. |
