The original (2-disc 'Special Edition') DVD and BD are barely a year and a half old (the movie itself was released less than two years ago) but now there's a 'Collectors Edition' of Casino Royale coming out, just in time for the theatrical release of Quantum of Solace, of course.

The DVD release will consist of three discs with lots of extras. The BD version will contain all the same stuff plus some more on two discs.

Does it also perhaps coincide with the release of a bunch of the other Bond movies on BD?

Interesting idea! I've read no such thing but if I do I'll certainly post a reference here.

Yup. Looks like a bunch of the Bond films come out that day on BD:

Wow, interesting.

I wonder if the extras included here will make all of the earlier DVD editions redundant.

By the way, I'll never understand how they come up with these bundles of completely unrelated Bond movies. Why not in chronological order?

Oh, and the link you posted has made this forum page very widescreen Wink

Sorry. I work on 1920 x 1200 monitors at work and home, and forget my manners sometimes.

No problem.

For your information: there are two James Bond BD box sets:

James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol. 1 (Dr. No / Die Another Day / Live and Let Die) [Blu-ray]

James Bond Blu-ray Collection Three-Pack, Vol.2 (For Your Eyes Only / From Russia with Love / Thunderball) [Blu-ray]

Both will be released on October 21, 2008. When more come out we'll post it here.

Yup. I had posted the box set just to note that several were coming out all the same day. I am more likely to pick and choose individual titles myself. Much more of a fan of the Connery films than the others.

It's a little too much to include in a post here so for everyone's convenience we've created a dedicated page:

Arrow James Bond Blu-ray Disc movies

Enjoy!

There appears to be a playability issue with the Blu-ray Disc version of Casino Royale and it's expected Sony (and other brands) will issue firmware updates for their BD players. I'm not aware if PS3 suffers from this playback problem but if it does I suspect it'is going to be one of the first players to get a system software fix.

I may nab Thunderball or Dr. No at Xmas. Already have the last release of From Russia on DVD, and it's decent enough for the occasional viewing.

Bought Casino Royale on the first go around, and not up for a double dip on it.

And I was never a big enough fan of Moore as Bond to run out and get those, although I did like a couple of his, like The Spy Who Loved Me enough to spring for them when they get released.

The Digital Bits reports the next batch of Bond movies which includes Goldfinger, GoldenEye, License to Kill, The World Is Not Enough, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker (I still don't get this order) will be released on Blu-ray Disc in spring 2009.

In the meantime I've noticed yet another reissue of the whole series on DVD, with new, harmonized but not very great looking artwork and a super box set. They were cheap and (except for the total collection box) looked so.
One wonders: Why?

Outside of the 'official James Bond canon', MGM is releasing Never Say Never Again on Blu-ray Disc (on March 24).

We've added it to the 007 BD overview page.
