Has anyone tested the SACD playback with the new firmware?
The only thing listed for Music was Type 3 Bitmapping, which is specifically designed for the PS3 to enchance audio playback, I'm not sure what that means. Does it have anything to do with SACD? |

Yes, bitmapping option 3 is again for SACD as well as upsampled CD playback.
Other features include:
* BD Profile 1.1
* DivX decoding
* VC-1 decoding
More about it on the home page and in the FAQ will follow shortly.
In the meantime here's some (Japanese) coverage:

Can anyone who (to his regret) installed v2.01 confirm whether DSD-to-DTS transcoding from v2.00 has returned in v2.10? |

I'm waiting to find out.
I don't have an optical connection so I can't try myself. |

All I can say is that it sounds wonderful (type 3 enabled). There is the power of auto-suggestion naturally, but I swear that SA-CDs played as recently as Sunday sound much more detailed with a deeper and more distinct bass. _________________ A diehard SA-CD fan

I agree with this. There's a greater separation of instruments (sounds), and even better clarity. Astonishing really.
CD is now acceptable, but SACD is at the pinnacle I feel.
Well done Sony, I am now officially a music fanboy as well as a movie fanboy. |

Now is this for HDMI and Optical only?
Right now I'm just using the AV connection for audio, does Type 3 have any significants for that? |

I've read the FAQ, the manual seems to explain that its only when using HDMI or Optical, and the 88hkz and 176khz must be selected, however they are not selectable with an analog connection.
Very confusing. |

I can understand that it is confuding. They probably mean those restrictions are in force when outputting digitally. When outputting analogously, then you get the benefits also. |

You can get 2 ch out of optical. Multichannel SACD, no. |

Doesn't seem like the auto-DTSing is working for me with latest firmware. What I see as kinda weird is following: I have receiver (old SONY STR-DB840) hooked via optical, it does support 88kHz stereo. I have the PS3 set accordingly, so when I put in hybrid-SACD, for the CD layer, I get 88kHz on receiver, upsampled from 44kHz CD resolution via PS3, but for 2-channel SACD layer, I only get 44kHz. I wish I could get the SACD converted to 88kHz as well, would make more sense to me... |
