PlayStation 4 is now officially announced.

I'm trying to figure out what logos can be spotted on the side. I'm not expecting any SACD logo or compatibility but what does it support?

Besides the PlayStation logo on the front/top, on the side I can clearly see an HDMI logo and further to the rights some vague Dolby logo. What's in between is a mystery to me.

Between HDMI and Dolby I would say it's DTS-HD Master Audio and to the right I beleive is a Blu-ray disc logo.

Very good -- that seems to be right. New close-up images have surfaced.

  • HDMI
  • DTS-HD Master Audio
  • Dolby TrueHD
  • Blu-ray Disc
Surely PS4 also plays DVD and CD but apparently SCE preferred to keep the logos to a minimum and have left these out. Same for Bluetooth.

Think it will support DSD playback as the more recent PS3s do?

Given PS4's PC-like architecture and SCEE's likely disappointment at the negligible overlap between gamers and audiophiles I doubt PS4 will support DSD playback, although technically it should be not that complicated and probably adds no cost (as opposed to SACD playback).

I was thinking the PC architecture was in its favor, as don't their VAIO line play DSD?

Only a precious few models, equipped with a 'Sound Reality' DSD decoder chip...
