Wired's got a How To guide on preserving HD-DVDs by converting them to BDs.

Too bad there's no way to preserve DVD-Audio discs by converting them to SACDs (though I think the other way round is very feasible). |

Maybe you can preserve DVD-As by converting them to BDs.
