but for gawd's sake, why yet another missed opportunity for a high-profile SACD release?

I have the CD+DVD release (2D, not that 3D rubbish). CD is only stereo, the concert in DVD is ONLY Dolby Digital 5.1 (sounds OK...), but the good thing comes with the original Oxygène album in DTS 1.5MB. Sounds fairly well in my PS3 + Onkyo 605.

Overall, a nice buy. The concert is great, and it's cool to watch all the analogue stuff live Smile

Too bad it's not a SACD. As usual in JMJ. He released "Aero" (2004) in CD+DVD, claiming to be the first surround album ever. Sounds amazing in DTS, but no SACD.

I guess that DTS track is just the original stereo mix?

By DTS 1.5 MB, I assume you mean max bit rate DTS? Might pick that up. Still play Zoolook fairly often (I actually have the LP as well).

Remarkable that this album (the 30th Anniversary Edition) is released by EMI, considering that Oxygene was originally released by Dreyfus, a label of Polydor i.e. PolyGram, which is now Universal Music.

An interesting interview with Jarre about the making of the original album and of the re-recording in this month's Sound On Sound magazine:

Not that remarkable when you consider that this new release is not a remaster but a complete re-recording, a new master if you will. Jarre split from Dreyfus, quite acrimoniously, in 2002. This way, he is free to release it on any label. Having listened to it, it is almost identical to the original but certainly benefits from the modern clarity that 21st century equipment and techniques provide.

I am currently waiting delivery of the 3D DVD of "Live In Your Living Room".

There's a dedicated website for these albums here:

Interesting mistake: the website explains 'DTS' als 'Dolby Theatre Sound'. Ouch...

I can confirm that the audio CD is simply stereo with no DTS version.

The video is in DD 5.1 or LPCM.

And as for the 3D version of the movie, don't bother. I can't get a decent image on any number of screens that I have tried, and neither can my g/f. Stick with the 2D version and save a few £££.

Shame about the CD not being in 5.1 though, especially after the Aero album.

Ah well, not to worry.

The movie itself is inspiring and the extras are pretty neat, especially for a synth-head like me Smile

Ok, the mystery deepens.

I've just checked the official website...

http://www.oxygene3d.com/oxygene2d.php

...and it states that the 2D version contains the regular 2D DVD and an SACD version of the album in 5.1 !

However, the 3D version makes no mention of this and I have just tried the CD and it is clearly a regular Redbook CD.

So, is this some clever (cynical) marketing ploy ?? Is the 2D version in SACD and the 3D version not ??

Guess I'll have to find a 2D version in the shops, which will be difficult as they are currently more rare than rocking horse s**t !!! Evil or Very Mad

Well, I have the 2D version, and I can confirm it's not a SACD. All this Oxygène affair is a bit confusing.

The CD audio is not DTS, but the DVD contains:

- The concert, live (in Dolby Digital 5.1).
- The album (called "New Master Recording with animated visuals", in DTS and DD 5.1 and 2.0).

Jarre does not have any SACD releases, so of course it's a marketing lie Sad

This is even more confusing.

I have the 3D version here in front of me. The CD, as you say, is just a regular CD. No DTS, No SACD, just simple Redbook audio CD.

The DVD however contains the film, "Live In Your Living Room" in both 2D & 3D. The audio for the film is in either Dolby Digital 5.1 or PCM Stereo. No DTS. The DVD does not contain a 5.1 mix of the album either. Apart from the film, it contains a few bonus features such as a "Making Of", the 3D visuals and a guide to the instruments. But definitely no surround mix of the studio album as you claim, and definitely nothing with "visuals".
